They are not in the current Whitesnake because David Coverdale defected to America and he thought that Bernie and Micky were not good-looking and fashionable enough for the USA. That's why Whitesnake turned from one of the very best rock bands in the world to a shitty hair-metal band. Listen and compare "Come An' Get It" and "Slip Of The Tongue", the latter is not really Whitesnake.

I am a big fan of Bernie's.... much less of Micky's but I must say that as much as I prefer Bernie's playing, Micky's a much more rounded and unique player. Whitesnake was and will always until 1982. After that, it was still good but became DC's solo band.

Ritchie wrote a lot of great riffs, like "White Christmas" , "Santa Claus comes to town" and "Amazing grace" but definitely not "In the still of the night" ... that's a John Sykes riff ...period

Bernie is going to be in trouble if he does not lose some weight! Ambition is the killer in music..these guys were always going to lose out to the naked ambition of coverdale..its where the money is...they are playing skeggy and he is in LA

but in a way coverdale is a bit like blackers, will never ever compromise, they have to "come to the change" themselves, in order for a band to have major changes.. which is both good and bad I suppose :)

@cristiano2pf3lz I agree thought that Coverdale won't compromise.. Probably why he is so succesfull and great, but still, I guess it could be a pain in the ass for the rest in the band :) I have to agree there. Sykes did receive credits though, he was a "song writer".. and btw, coverdale says sykes still owe him money + sykes wanted a replacement singer for coverdale when he was ill! Then one can really understand coverdale. Sykes says coverdale owe him money.. I think the truth lies somewhere

@cristiano2pf3lz well.. he didnt write music for here i go again or crying in the rain. Still of the night riff coverdale hade from blackers in DP. The rest was co-written but I suppose sykes wrote a majority of it. But let's not forget DC has written music to many succesfull songs, so who knows how much he had to do with the music. He did write the music to dont break my heart again, slide it in, guilty of love, and 20-30 other songs by himself.

@leppardsnake In part I agree with you man, but I guess Coverdale is not an easy person to deal with.... Sykes wrote almost the whole instrumentation of the 87 album and almost didnt receive credits for it... you can read it...

I do love the band, but coverdale have made lots of faults tooo...

@bessadale I prefer early whitesnake, but to call them a shitty hair-metal is a bit harch. Btw. they were not fired due to their apperance. They were never a full band in the studio for saints and sinners, they were always doing something else. So he fired many of them. By the way, Micky himself decided to leave whitesnake.

To look for america was not DC's choice.. it was the people at geffen records.. ofc, dc didnt complain when whitesnake became a hit band in the US though..
