USATC S160 No.5197


These 2-8-0 locomotives were built by American Locomotive Company (ALCO), Baldwin Locomotive Company and Lima Locomotive Company for the United States Army Transportation Corps of Engineers (USATE)

5197 was built as works no.8856 in 1945 and was shipped directly from the US to China in 1945.

It was purchased from the Chinese coal industry, arriving in the UK in 1995.

  • why does she have a genorator in her tender?

  • I did know but can't for the life of me remember...

    Something had failed on the loco requiring the addition of the generator to 'fill in'
