It came out 2005, right around the time when the whole melodic metalcore thing came into play. Before As i lay dying were even that established. Matt is definitely inspired by death metal, As i lay dying's melodies in guitar riffs are so alike those of swedish death metal bands. Metalcore = Swedish death metal + breakdowns.
Trivium, AILD etc. basically made this melodic style popular in America. If these FEW bands never introduced these melodies, i doubt BVB and AA etc. would even exist.

1: Ember to Inferno
2: Shogun
3: Ascendancy
4: The Crusade
5: In Waves
All are amazing albums though. Crusade would have topped Ascendancy for me if they would have put Broken One instead of The Rising. That songs is an abomination.

Trivium is a thrash band and Ascendancy is a thrash album. Metalcore doesn't exist. When bands such a Lamb of God, Trivium, Pantera, and Asking Alexandria are considered metalcore, something is wrong, because none of these sound the same. Metalcore and thrash have the same definitions. So unless Asking Alexandria sounds thrash to people, metalcore is a flawed genre and doesn't even exist.
