  • I was about 4 or 5 years old. My mother would take a break from the kitchen chores and she put the 78 on the Victrola and I would grab the handle of a broom as if it were a stand-up microphone and croon this song along with Cornell. She would giggle with her eyes while she watched me sing the lyrics in perfect unison. And I would ask her to play it again and she would before she went back to the kitchen and I could hear her humming along softly from there.

  • OOOOH, what memories! Thank you for this.

  • Not only a beautifully sung song, but accompanied by a brilliant video even George Shearing would have loved!

  • My Mother and Fathers song. When my father would come home after drinking with the guys he start singing I'm yours as he entered our bldg, we lived one flight up, just enough time to win my Mom back.

  • Yes he was underrated, he was right up there with the likes of Dean Martin,Jerry Vale,etc..in those days it was very romantic to hear a song sung half in Italian, that's what they all did back then,Don who was Italian didn't go that route he stayed with English, maybe that's why. That powerhouse voice was pure perfection.

  • Don Cornell is a vastly underrated singer!

  • oh, my....such sweet memories. I was just graduating from high school, 16 years old and very much in love with a sailor boy. How I wish those times were back! I would roll the universe into a ball into the palms of my hands with what I know now. Sweet tender memories. Do you remember, Glenn Wright?

  • As much as I liked Sinatra, Don Cornell was always my favorite singer.

  • I am 87 & still love Sammy Kaye's style. I remember my first love in the 40's and think how lovely it was before WW2.-Chuck

  • @doctorhugo Thanks for calling me kiddo I'm 84 years old.I'm glad you had a nice experence meeting Don maybe he was having a bad night when I saw him.

  • @caravan922 - Well kiddo, I'm in my 70s and saw Don twice. Both times I was fortunate to be able to speak to him personally. The occasions were a full dozen years apart and the guy remembered me even to the point of asking if I still lived where I originally had mentioned I did. I was flabbergasted and caught off guard and he laughed politely as I did the same. The guy was polite, unassuming and gave me the sense of an old friend. So I must disagree with your personalilty comment in spades!
