This was the BBC's annual celebration of all of the best of its' output, screened at peak viewing time on Christmas Night. This edition, screen in 1964, is hosted by Jack Warner, otherwise known as Dixon of Dock Green. Each edition had a 5-10 minute segment from each star or series, and these specials were on most years from 1958-72. It was based on the specials called 'Television's Christmas Party', which ran from 1951-54.
Top of the Pops
Weekly pop music chart show which ran from 1962 until it was killed off by the BBC in an obscure sunday BBC2 slot around 2007. It was massively influential and had high ratings until the mid 90's, when the same idiocy that destroyed Radio One also finished off this popular favorite. The BBC didn't know what to do with it after the freeview pop channels had been launched, and despite endless revamps, which had abviously been designed by drunks being threatened at knife point in late night bars in Chester, the show was finally laid to rest. This segment features the Barron Nights impersonating all of the top acts of the day.
