A short video for those who want to have an idea of the great sound of the Charlie Christian Pick Up reissue made by cc-pickups in the U.K. It was recorded on the camcoder microphone but you still can get this very dynamic sound, a little bit compressed, with very nice and accurate bass and this chunky non-aggressive medium-high. Playing with volume and tone knobs DOES really allow you lot of possibilities.. I enjoyed cranking up the pre-amp of the 15 watts fender blues junior to get a little T-Bone/Charlie smooth overdrive... By the way sorry for the mistakes, it was all made in one take, tried to play as much as possible so you get the idea of the sound.. My advice if you're not sure : don't hesitate ! I had it installed on my beloved 1954 ES 125 and it rocks dude !

  • Hi! What's that high-pitched whistling noise at 2:42. Is it the pickup? - 'cause it seems to disappear when you roll off the volume.

    Thanks.

  • @ElectronRomance please find my answer up here...

  • HOLY **** That is some awesome pick-up! N1

  • @nimrodlev333 this pick-up is a killer !

  • Lovely tone from your banjo man. Super! I can hear how it has that CC edge to it. Interesting sound attack from the pickup! What type of strings are you using flats or wounds? Love the barking sound when you pick hard. I can only get that out of my ES165 if I put a fair amount of compression on it and it is just not the same. I wish I still had my 125 but alas we parted long long ago (prior to marriage!) The pup you have had installed was not available then.

    Keep bopping

    Best regards

  • @Cabbycabbage definitly flatwounds 10/50 d'Addario. but sounds great with half rounds and rounds wounds... You're right this pick up is very sensitive to the way you pick and attack... It offers a lot of textures depending on the way you attack...

  • whistling noise aside nice tone..plenty of bloom, although even more could be had with an alnico speaker like a weber 12a125a.

  • Love the sound and kudos to your great jazz playing, but I have to say that I can pretty much get these same tones with a stock humbucker in my Gibson L-5 CES through an original '66 Deluxe Reverb. I find that a lot of that cool bark on a sharp pick attack comes having an articulate amp and nice old tubes that are good and hot. Not a criticism of your great video, just an observation. Sounds great, man!

  • @LanceHelmut thanx for your nice comment ;)

  • @lulugibbs Ola Amigo, este captador se vende acqui : ccpickups.co.uk/

  • Hey ElectronRomance, the noise is due to a ground problem in my home.. This makes my amps quite noisy. Anyway the charlie pick up is not a humbucker and I sometimes have buzzzzz on some stages (due to ground problems, light or PA systems..). Definitly NOT a modern pick-up but a fucking great sound :). So many players have a clean flat boring reverbered sound, there is a place on this earth for dirty hairy sweaty messy guitar sounds :)
