@neilpeartrocks2112 yes and no. yes this very well was based on a true story. but the untrue part is that there were no chainsaws, and the movies are always way more gorier and scarier than the actua event.

No. Based TCM is based on Ed Gein. There was a story of satanism in Texas, and a ritual where they ate human flesh. So combine Ed Gein, that urban myth and Tobe Hooper being in a mall looking at chainsaw, and voila ! The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
