Well you're right. The problem that most people don't have this perception. They (meaning the average employer) think that a person with a college degree is more "legitimate" than a self education one.

They'll open doors for you if you have that piece of toilet paper in your hand, and slam it shut if you don't. Except if you're in the arts (music, drawing, writing...) where your standard shows itself fairly quickly.

I wish it were otherwise, but it isn't for now.

  • @goodforallusa out with the old in with the new.. if it's the same but someone comes along with better he takes that person if that's what u mean.. the thing is those same old people could have been good as the person who is better but they chose not to become better which is why he chose the better person by replacement

  • oh I see the people he is speaking of r leaders but he is head leader that takes all the ideas of all the special leaders of each and knows what to do with each.. this isn't small resturant but billion dollar corporate

  • this guy says if ur the smartest guy in the room and ur a leader u got problems.. what if ur hiring people to work at ur McDonalds? then u got the wrong people unless ur plain dumb.. what type of smarter people business than u is this guy speaking of?

  • Neutron Jack burned through employees like he burned through wives. He hires the right people, then fires them quickly. Not the management style to build a winning company, instills fear and lack of dedication among existing staff.

If today's CEO's practiced the way Neutron Jack did at GE they would be in prison, laws were written because of him. Jack needs to stick to writing books with useless bantor everyone knows and seeking a newer younger wife. "Fix it, close it, or sell it."

  • A few companies that I have worked for (past tense) had the opposite philosophy than this. The best quote I ever got from a from a Company VP..."It's too inconvenient for us to promote you" even though I had multiple employees trained up to replace me. I left the company soon after.

  • @MrBoomSonic It depends on the company. There is more diversity in management styles and each company has its own particular 'personality' - usually depending on who owns it. The younger the company and the closer it is to new technologies, the more likely it will encourage those who ask questions and speak up.

I don't know if this will help you or not: I was taught that people who don't ask questions remain ignorant.

  • When I self-learn on the job, they say I am slow. When I follow instructions without questioning, I am told that I followed blindly....When I ask, my ex-boss say I ask stupid questions or that I am arguing and not nodding my head and saying yes all the time. Bosses in asia demand total obedience like a dog.... Does USA company really promote at speaking out ideas really???

  • @TheShirEl you are 100% right. That's what I keep doing. Thank you very much for the sources, appreciated ;)

Learning alone is fun, but learning from others is way faster.

  • @kriptonis PS: it's harder but cheaper. And if you REALLY want it, you'll find a legitimate way to get it. For fun, see the movie "Finding Forrester."
