Jake Consoles Paulina After She Breaks Up With Grant

Jake finds Paulina weeping alone in the dark at D&M and learns that she broke it off with Grant. He hugs her and tries to console her. Paulina says Jake is the last person she should be crying over Grant with, but he says he's exactly the person she should be crying over Grant with. He asks if there's anything he can do for her, and she asks him to stay with her until she calms down. Then she tells him that she was the one who ended things, not Grant, and that she did so because she's tired of Vicky always being there and running Grant's campaign and his life. She told Grant to fire Vicky or else, Grant didn't like being backed into a corner, they argued about Vicky, they argued about Jake, and then things got really out of control and Grant said something he couldn't take back. Jake tells Paulina it's better she found out now, because she wouldn't want to get into a marriage that doesn't work. This makes her laugh. He goes on to say that Paulina has changed, and she's stronger and more confident now than she ever was before, and Grant can't handle that. Paulina agrees that when she was struggling to find her place in the Cory family, it was easier for her to sit back and let Vicky do everything Vicky did..."But not anymore. Not anymore!" Jake points out. However, things go downhill fast when Jake starts badmouthing Grant, saying that it's his loss if he doesn't realize how great Paulina is, and that Grant only cares about what Grant wants. Paulina tries to defend Grant, and Jake tells her to stop defending the creep. Paulina says this isn't what she needs right now, and she's not letting Jake or Grant or anyone else run her life anymore, and she rushes out of D&M. Jake follows her a moment later.
