I heard of him on a brian Eno album. I liked what I heard so far.

Unbelievable.. It's a masterpiece!

I think he built three of them: one in Hannover (1933, which was sadly destroyed in 1943), one in Lysaker, Norway (1937, which was sadly burned) and one in Elterwater, England (1947). He died before he could finish the last one, but he always said, that the MERZbau ist his lifework.

Wow. I've gotta do a mini art project on Schwitters for school - I didn't really think I'd find anything here, I was just bored on wikipedia. That was great,

"Everything the artist spits is art".

The one in Northumberland was dismantled and a section rebuilt at a museum in Newcastle. I have seen it some years ago. Good but something was lost in the move as you can imagine.

I have read that he planned to build another one, he started to build a big barn but died before he could start the construction work on the "Merz"..

But there was more than one as I understand it. He went to Northumberland in UK and built another one at least. I may be wrong.

Schwitters is everything!
