"Old people don't need to take a pill, they need to take a walk," argues Stanford University physician Dr. Walter Bortz. He bashes the "corrupt," profit-driven U.S. healthcare system for distorting the goals of medical care. "Nobody's out there trying to prevent cancer, they're all so busy treating it because you get paid for it," he says.

-----

Rife with inefficiency, injustice, corruption and rising costs, current medicine is exhibiting all the symptoms of a languishing patient, says Dr. Bortz. It may be time to put our medical system through major therapy. Simultaneously, a rigorous new science is teaching us that prevention truly is the best way to stay healthy. - Commonwealth Club of California

Walter Michael Bortz is an American physician who promotes the possibility of a 100-year lifespan while working at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is one of America's leading scientific experts on aging and has written several bestselling books.

  • I object to your depiction of me. Alliteration sounds so much better, so in the future, please address me as the weirdo wacko liberal looney leftist marxist. Feel free to add bashi-bazouk, iconoclast and ten-thousand thundering typhoons as you wish. But do avoid the racism, please, it gives me gas.

  • You bring up an interesting point. "Corporatisim" is different than Capitalism because Corporations destroy and obstruct a Free Market society by using and manipulating the government through insane lobbying. An example of this would be Clarence Thomas working as a lawyer for Monsanto before becoming a corrupt "Associate Justice of the Supreme Court". It was Thomas whom allowed Monsanto to patent DNA of seeds and then sue farmers for Monsanto's 'patented' seeds getting into farmer's farm.

  • so should doctors and pharmaceutical representatives be in black trench coats instead of white lab coats

  • @TheDogRibs this is why we do not need another healthcare bill it will only make pharmaceutical companies even more powerful!

  • @jobedied also the infertility rates are increasing because of GMO (cough) wheat, I mean wheat (sacracism). Genetically modified wheat is causing this problem. they predict the the 7th or 8th generation will be infertile. we are in the 6 or 7th generation.

  • @artformeandyou the love of money is the root of all evil,so the love of profits corrupts, so its BOTH!

  • drug money...blood money

  • 6 people didn't honor their genetic endowments

  • watch?v=_dmPchuXIXQ Watch this, it's the zeitgiest.

  • NHLBI's ATP III which steers cholesterol treatment is 8 of 9 funded by the statin producers.

USDA's DGAC decides what food is good and nearly all 13 are funded by grain companies.

Lobbyists drive healthcare policy, and the world is paying for it.

  • @dickwadd13

You really think the insurance company's are losing with this new bill? The government has just guaranteed them tens of millions of customers. Now all incentive to provide a better service, even if there was just a little, is lost. I bet they've helped pushing the bill themselves with their lobbyist. People should get off the idea that big corporations and governments are rivals. The only cure for bad corporations is competition, not bigger government.

  • @thedogribs here in america, the system will let us after. I did with pain chest pain oh my goodness I can't even explain it and guess what I have no health care does it surprise you? I am so sick of our american system. I am seriously considering moving to canada I will pay more taxes, it doesn't bother me as long as I know I will have healthcare
