British and American students are quarantined in Beijing over fears of the swine flu. Some students showed symptoms of the flu after entering China for an educational tour. Here's more.
British and American students who entered China last week are quarantined in Beijing. 52 students from the United Kingdom and 17 students from the United States remain quarantined after some of them were admitted to the hospital showing symptoms of the swine flu.

The American students, most of them from Washington D.C., have been kept in their hotel rooms and will be quarantined for the next couple of days.

[Natalie Chaney, Student, Washington D.C., U.S.]:
"I am not really scared. I think they will take pretty good care of us. I just spoke with some of my friends in the hospital right now. They say that they have been treated very well. They said they received American food. They have a TV. They are allowed to call their friends whenever they want. I just talked on the phone with them this morning. They said they are very comfortable."

The tour guide for the American students believes that the tour will continue.

[Xu Xin, Tour Guide]:
"I think the tour will continue because the organizer stated in the beginning that if the tour was to be interrupted by this swine flu, as long as the students want to continue, organizers will pay extra fees."

The American students are scheduled to travel to China's Shandong Province for a cultural exchange program.

The American and British students entered China last week to take Chinese language courses, to study culture and go on tours.

The swine flu pandemic had killed around 430 people worldwide by early July, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The virus was first detected in Mexico in April before spreading around the world. The WHO declared a pandemic in June.
