a delightful interview with this doyen of the Metropolitan Opera who now devotes her time to passing on her knowledge to the stars of the future. Interviewed by Neil Shestopal in Israel in 2008, Mignon Dunn's generosity of spirit and enthusiasm for her artform shines through.

Yes! And she was the most astounding Ortrud in Kollo's debut Lohengrin. And she upstaged Nilsson in the premiere Gotterdammerung at the Met in '74. Her Waltraute was so intense, so moving. She was great in everything, and an ingratiating, delightful personality if you were fortunate enough to go backstage. I wish there were more excerpts from other operas available, rather than only Gioconda.

  • One of my favorite dramatic mezzos. She was outstanding in tthe Met's Electra.
