LUDMILLAs in action! Russian Diesel Locomotive Power & Great Diesel Sound! BR232 5D49 BR 232 RN232

GREAT DIESEL SOUND! The Ludmilla Diesel Locomotive (aka classes 230, 231, 232, 234) of the (former) East German Railways was built by the diesel locomotive works "October Revolution" in Woroschilowgrad/Soviet Union (today: Luhansk) in the 1970´s and 80´s.

This Diesel Locomotive class has a 16-cylinder turbocharged 4-stroke diesel engine (the legendary 5D49!) with chargecooler and 3000 HP, 6 axles and is designed for heavy freight and passenger trains. This Russian Diesel Locomotive has been in service in many former Eastern European countries.

The Diesel Locomotive has a nice sound, especially in the test facility at the end of the clip.

no, they´ve been built for the GDR only.

The COMECON rules said that the GDR had to produce diesel locomotives of up to 2000 HP, so they had to let someone else build these locos.

Don´t know exactly, but I think Lugansk is correct. The town was formerly called Woroschilowgrad.

In Russia all TE109 was changed to 2TE116.

ТЭ109 использовались на металлургических предприятиях. Сейчас этот локомотив полностью заменен 2ТЭ116.
