I've owned this Mazda6 for a little over a year now. This Mazda6 is a S, with the 3.0 Ford V6. This engine is almost indentical to the engines in the Ford Fusion, and the Mercury Milan. The CEL has been on ever since I bought the car. It seems like the timing was retarded on the vehicle. I pulled the CEL code ended up being P0022. Turned out the the car had the wrong VVT solenoid in it, and it was keeping the timing retarded. Problem solved! Someone had replaced this solenoid with the wrong one. Enjoy the video!

  • The car feels amazing now! It red lines very quickly, and runs great! I'm not too fond of Fords, but this seems to be a great car!

Thats the only one place where i found that item... just need to call them.

  • what was the ford part number you used was it 6M8Z-6M280-AA Thanks Derek

  • what year is that mazda u are doing the work on i have a 07 mazda with the same problem and the mazda dealer is telling me to get a new motor .

  • I'm having the exact same problem... My mechanic says it's the front solenoid that needs to be replaced, but it's not sold separately, only with the full assembly for over $400. Maybe I can use the Fold Solenoid part as well. Did it have a specific part number or anything i should reference to ensure i get the right part for a 2004 Mazda 6 3L?? Any help is appreciated

  • Does anybody know if using the ford parts in this video fixed the problem.??

I am having the same problems.

  • The new selenoid is sold with an updated chain guide. The selenoid is almost the same but it will sit higher in the old guide. It almost looks like you can bend the tab to get it to fit, not sure if I would try this though. Not sure why they did this but it's a 10 hour job to remove the timing chain to get to the guide.

  • That solenoid looks easily assessable and easy to snap out and change. Can you or anyone out there tell me where the VVT solenoid is on a 99--'02 Prizm/Corolla ? (bad, it doen't respond) . and how is it changed/replaced?

  • I just bought a new solenoid cuz i broke the original since i was taking the valve cover off, n i ordered through mazda n i got a ford which doesnt sit right in place, n they sold me the whole chain guide not only the solenoid, any help please i need a mazda on so bad!!!!

My car died on me about a week ago, and had the started tested, and replaced. battery is holding a steady 12.6v charge. the car still wont start. If it was the alternator then It would have drained the battery. Now I also did hav e cel with regards to the camshaft timing sensor. My ?s is what were the cars symptoms before the repair?

  • imagine customising those heads on a klze with the vvt
