The person taking the video should probably know that rocking the car like that on the broken gearbox is likely to also be doing the flywheel in.

think these are bad try the astra h totally crap box....A have had 3 in my car yes 3 and its just done 15.000!!!!!!!!! a really hate the car had nothing but trouble with it STAY AWAY unless its the 6 speed box there much better but a never know this at the time ;-( It will be up for sale soon hate it...... it will prop blow up the moro because a have said this lol... better not or vauxhall will hear me comeing up the road lol!!!

i have a golf 4 1.6 sr automatic gearbox .... and the reverse (R) doesnt work ... anyone know's why? plz i need help ... i have to know if i need to change or not the entire gearbox ... and i know that is kinda expensive ... soo if i can fix it in anyway ... pm or reply to this

well mine it's not so good... today i couldnt change N to 1st gear, past 5 secs i did :P i thought it was for clutch, i changed it, and it stills doing it sometimes, with 2nd gear happens sometimes, but not so much strong

mine broken after 70,000 km!
i maintained it, replaced gears, and guess what, i have a car with 125km/h top speed!!!, i wasn't to doubt about the gearbox, but i see alot of gearbox issues for golf on the web

99 T-REG. 135k runs sweet as a nut no problems so far touch wood.

I have a mk4 manual 1.6l. The gearbox is a disgrace. Shocking, feels cheap and flimsy, and likely to fall apart any time soon. It has only 130,000kms on it...

Yup, Golf Mk4 gearboxes are bad, mine had issues, and many others said the same.

Agree with yascumbag. Pre-2000 1.4's and 1.6's gearbox rivets fail, breaking the housing. Disgraceful. Their electrics pre-2000 weren't up to much either. Window clips made of cheap plastic, so the glass falls into the door. Just don't get a mkIV
