  • I know that you uploaded this vid almost a year ago but I just found you a few weeks ago. I have been going through all of your vids and had to comment on this one. At my job I wear my hair in many different ways (from long straight wigs to full out afro). A co-worker commented when I wore a short straight wig that it looked more professional. My boss even stated that she liked my hair when I wear it pulled back and pinned up. This just makes me want to wear it as big and puffy as possible.

  • @LadyCaramel33 lol! I feel ya.

  • off topic. do you eat gluten free?

  • @temi1979 no, why?

  • Someone once asked me if I was a poet, well actually he said ' you a poet huh?' Maybe that's what he was exposed to in one way or another but my natural hair failed to bring out my poetic potential, I just got tired of the burn of the perm LoL!!!

  • @agnoteoz HA! I get that too...but I am a poet and was one with relaxed hair.

  • I agree! I work in the education field & I LOVE my natural hair! However, if I am giving a presentation in front of 40 non-black people, then I pull my hair back into a nice bun and rock it. It is not that I am conforming, but I do modify my appearance depending on the situation. Why? People I need a job...lol. I would not be Dean at a college if I walked around like Angela Davis every day. People have to realize that we don't always have to scream "Say It Loud! I'm Black and I'm Proud".

  • Girl! Unbelievable!! Who on earth would have the audacity to do something like that. Some people are just so nasty! By the way, I actually think your natural hair looks much more professional than your wig, believe it or not, especially your bantu knot-out. I hear you and totally understand where you're coming from, though. People do make assumptions, whether we like it or not and even whether THEY like it or not. I usually opt for glasses vs contacts on interviews, even for an apartment.

  • I'm so late chiming in but whatevs. I've always not shown my hair in its normal natural glory. I usually smooth it into a bun and call it a day. In fact, I only wear buns at work. Needless to say it's always a shock to co-workers when they would see in social settings with it doing its thang. Folks make certain assumptions about me because they don't think I'm black enough. *Shrugs* but somehow the natural gives me some negro credibility... :-\

  • @Nanoubonbon Not only sisters-My brother recently go fired from his job because he refused to cut his hair (which he got hired wearing). They said it was insubordination.

  • My boyfriend became roommates w/ some white ppl and they heard us listening rock like foo fighters and fall out boy and were giving eachother looks like wtf? they werent rude like ur cashier but bcuz of how "essentially black" we were they had to do a double take.

oooh and one time a customer at my job was looking at me funny and started cussing and talking slang, which i could totally tell was intentional, like i would think she was cool and could "get down" with blk folks.

  • Regarding the multi vitamins I had i think centrum and it upset my stomach and i found out that they have synthetic ingredients so i switched to GNC brand multi (all natural i believe) and it did not upset me, but I am sensitive to vanilla scents and the coatin gmade me nauseous. I couldnt figure a way to take it w/o smelling so i quit lol.

  • You are right, sadly right. It is funny that in order to look "regular" a sister has to tame/hide "modify" like you say, her natural appearance ( especially hair). This is really sad! Natural hair in all its forms should become a norm.

    Paix et Amour!

  • i worked at this disguisting daycare center. the administrator told me i couldnt wear my head scarf because it was "unprofessional." mind-you the entire place was nasty & i would never send my insects there. i quit a couple months later for other reasons {ghettofied parents} but it was a way out for me...

  • I agree! Im newly natural and growing my twa out!! I am on a job search and I was just thinking the same thing! When I get an interview, how will i wear my hair? Thanks cause Im going to wear a wig! Then when I get the job, bust up in there with my fro!!! lol!!!

  • What a great idea! I'm so tired of putting heat in my hair for job interviews. I'm getting a wig! :-)
