Rabid Raccoon

This raccoon had been hanging around my creek, so I decided to film it. But while I was filming it started having a fit, I think it might have been rabid. Poor thing disappeared after it had shook and screamed for like 30 minutes. I called the vet, but they couldn't help, and I live in a VERY rural area and we don't have animal control so I was helpless to help. :-( very sad. It just about broke my heart.

It likely had distemper not rabies.

@dondena21 it happens every oce in a while but usually after a day it stays paralyzed and then dies

I don't think it was rabid. It was just obviously having a seizure! It was standing and walking a bit more normal afterward. It it was staggering about, then perhaps you would have had a rabid coon.

That's so sad. We had a sick coon in our driveway on a Sunday when animal control was closed, and the cop's best idea for it was to shoo it into the neighbor's yard! We have lots of kids in our neighborhood. I couldn't believe it.
