In this video I install dual alternators in a Ford F-350 Super Duty Powerstroke 7.3L Diesel. This is the third of 4 parts. I have tried to include all the information you need to know to do this modification yourself. Installing dual alternators is a pretty big job and there are a lot of ways to make a mistake, I know because I made (and corrected) most of them.

Index:
@0:39 136" serpentine belt numbers
@1:00 Heavy Duty Belt Tensioner
@3:39 How to remove the lower alternator pulley without removing the alternator
@5:12 The final correct combination of parts.
Link to part 4 (not finished yet)

The final combination of parts that worked are:
136" Belt Gates K081359
Heavy Duty Belt Tensioner F8UZ-6B209-CA
Full size pulley on the lower alternator
Overdrive pully on the upper alternator
Idler pulley F8TZ8678FA
Lower Alternator Bracket F8TZ-10A313-AA
6 bolts N606068-S437
1-4" 1/2 X 16 bolt
Matched Alternators (I used unmatched and it worked but not perfectly)
Ambulance wiring harness F81Z-14305-CA
Optional, Around the belt radiator Hose F81Z-8260-CA

  • high amperage wont affect the truck's electrical system?

  • @FxOxC The alternators will only put out enough amps to supply the amount of amps being used by the truck. If you do not have anything turned on the alternators will only put out enough to keep the battery charged and run the trucks computer. It is sort of like the battery. The battery will only put out the amps that are being drawn.

  • hey man my truck came with two alternators just wondering what u would possibly need two alternators for?

    thanks

  • @freestylemxer7c Hi: The main advantages of dual alternators are redundancy, higher amps at idle and of course higher amp output. Trailer lights don't use much juice but huge sound systems, winches, 120volt inverters, emergency lights and so forth can over burden a single alternator especially at idle.
