I have been asked multiple times over the years what Make & Model of Amps I use in order to get my Distorted Tones. Most of the time it has been 1987-1989 Marshall JCM 800 2210's/2205's with EL34's, Boss SD-1 and an original Alesis Quadraverb in the loop. Speakers and cabs are key also in order to avoid brittle & buzzy tones.

  • You are very welcome.

    Cheers, David

  • cool! What I really like about Marshalls are 1) they sound great in a band context 2) they record better than dam near anything

  • @jhinson411 I could not agree more.

    David

  • @NewReligion1954 btw what do ya use to record as far as software & mics & what have you. Was checking out the tune Like winter, sounded great!

  • @jhinson411 I use Sonar Pro Ed III for capture. I then master it in Wavelab using Waves Diamond bundle then apply it to a analog deck onto tape for final EQ and saturation. Then back to digital 16 bit for CD distro.

    As for mics, SM57's.

Thanks for the kind words, David.

  • Yup. That's THE tone right there. Awesome. What do you usually have your SD-1 settings at? I'm thinking about picking one up for my rig.

  • @naveed211 Thank you. For the 2210 I run a SD-1 with the LEVEL maxed, the TONE @ noon and the DRIVE @ noon.

    David.

  • I don't remember if I already commented on this vid, but I got a 2205 after watching it a year ago :) And I still think it's the best damn amp I've ever owned, sounds just awesome. So thanks for making this!

  • @naxguitar The only difference between the 2205 & 2210 is 2 additional EL34's which only gives 3db more volume which is little. The 2210's seem to have more balls to the low end though. Thanks for the comment. Best to you.

    David.

  • Congrats David! What a killer tone you achieved!!

It's warm defined , with rounded bass, a bit of natural compression and incredibly clear lead in the mid and low-mid range (palm-muting) and very warm trebble, not harsh or metallic. Amazing man! This is what I've been looking for.

I'm planning to buy a JCM 800 but I hesitate about the model 2205 or 2210.Can you get this tone out of the 2205 too? 100w is too much for me. Thx and cheers mate!
