Thanks for posting the clip. I love the Winds of War, I just saw it again on Netflix. I was thrilled Netflix had this on line. They just don't make TV movies like they used to.

I really enjoyed this movie .I have this movie on DVD. I am very glad I got it so I can watch any time I want. Thank you for posting this video of Natalie and Byron they were so good together in the movie. Two great actors in Hollywood that are good in my day from the 60 's70's.

The reason ali mcgraw was chosen to play natalie is because she was the actress the writer herman wouk imagined as natalie. i love the book - and mcgraw owned natalie - expressions mannerisms everything - and the same with jmv - we WAS byron and mcgraw WAS natalie. seymore and blochner in the sequel were very good actors - glitzy and glamorous - but they were not the complex characters portrayed in the books

You've got to be kidding. Ali McGraw and JMV have to be two of the worst actors to hit the screen. Ali McGraw's part actually ruined the movie. She couldn't act act her way out of a paper bag.

Too bad JMV is in a very bad condition right now

@alpheratz9 -- i'm reading the book. why would you mis-represent natalie's age & become prickly when another rightly corrects you and fairly objects to casting, age wise? perhaps wouk had TOO much say in production (besides telescript). personally, i find valerie-byron dialogue clunky and barely believable. ditto byron's actions, tho wouk tries hard to convince us 'he's just gotta have that jewess', nevermind she's back in america & he's NOT, but minding her old uncle in fascist italy (again). .

Is J M V A good kisser he was most always doing it .And his lips is made for it .
-
@alpheratz9 I also read the book. She was about 28.

I know Jan Michael Vincent and Ali McGrow were somewhat old for the characters, but the time the series was on air, I was very very little and didnt care. Byron and Nathalie were the first imaginary couple I came to know and they were so attractive they made nearly a myth to me. The whole series was great. Such a pity - and a shame - they dont even re-air such creations since seldom is any produced.

Serin81 is right. Ali MacGraw in this was thee worst casting in all film and TV history. Simply awful. And why did they hire a 45-year old actress (Ali) to play a character in her mid-20s?
She looked and acted like a middle-aged woman mimicking her college-age daughter

Both of these actors were WAYYY WAYYY too old to play Byron and Natalie. In the book the characters were in their 20's. In the early 1980's, Ali McGraw was already 41. Ridiculous.

actually I just finished the book by Hermann Wouk - in the book Natalie is in her late 30's- so casting is perfect actually! :-) JMV looks younger than he really is as well...

I have to disagree about Natalie and Byron's age. When Natalie and Byron were on the train talking him getting a job the book says their age.Natalie was 27 and Byron was 25.

So what!?? Actors don't have to match the ages of the characters they are playing, or even phsyical characteristics to make the characters come to life. Robert Mitchum is taller than Pug in the book- but WHO CARES? The actors do a GREAT JOB in this series. Nitpickers galore...geez!! :-)

byron was in his early 20's... this dude looks 40!

This dude= Jan Michael Vincent. And he's TOTALLY like Byron!! Have you actually watched the WINDS OF WAR series? The actors are so much like the characters in the book. Robert Mithcum is taller than the character in the book- but so what? He's perfect as Pug. Jan is in his mid 30's, but his acting and spirit are so much like Byron. Same with Ali as Natalie. I can't imagine how you can watch this series and NOT love the actors who bring these characters to life. They are wonderful!
