Dana Lagomarsino talked with Dr. Jason Hartman D.O. during an osteopathic manipulation therapy session at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dana has been going to Dr. Hartman for over a year-and-a-half and has experienced dramatic results that have improved her alignment and flexibility, and decreased pain, which has helped her dance career exponentially. A Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) approaches medicine more holistically than a traditional M.D. Doctors with a D.O. degree such as Dr. Jason Hartman, can specialize in osteopathic manipulation therapy, which is a combination of chiropractic, physical therapy, acupuncture and massage techniques. With this degree, doctors of osteopathy believe they can aid the therapy that occurs within oneself on the molecular level after treatment, and along with prescribed medicine they might recommend homeopathic remedies to also assist in recovery. Osteopaths view the body as a whole mechanism, when there is an injury, reoccurring pain, or even tight muscles, treatment shouldn't just occur at the sight, but should be healed through the understanding of connectivity between all the systems working within the body, addressing neurological and cardiovascular pathways, and digestive, skeletal and muscular systems. Their idea is that you only need to have osteopathic therapy at most once a week depending on the severity of your injury, because your body does most of the healing itself - it truly is a remarkable practice.

Personal note from Dana:
As a dancer, it was hard for me to partake in ballet classes since they require several actions of holding your leg out in extension, which aggravated my injured hip. After one deep tissue massage session, my hip injury was released, and I now rarely experience hip pain like I had in previous years. This is just one of many positive results I have experienced from osteopathic manipulation. Dr. Hartman has improved my posture through pelvic manipulation, he has helped correctly align my back and has released my muscles head to toe enabling me to move pain free like never before. As an athlete, I push my body to extremes by over working my muscles and joints. Receiving osteopathic therapy in parallel to my dance career has helped me heal from previous injuries and continues to help prevent future ones.

For more information and to make an appointment with Dr. Jason Hartman D.O. if you're in the Philadelphia area, visit: www.pcom.com or call 215-871-6425. Search for D.O.'s in your area! It's AMAZING the results that come from osteopathic manipulation.

  • "they usually recommend homeopathic remedies..."?!?!?!

They prescribe real medicine, if necessary... homeopathy and osteopathy aren't under the same umbrella. OMT is a scientifically proven treatment for certain ailments, but homeopathy is not science, period.

  • @anzalonec - The key world is assist, "real" medicine was implied since I stated that they are doctors. However, homeopathy shouldn't be easily passed off. What did people do before man-made pills and pharmaceutical companies? ...Use medicinal plants.

  • I would object to 'Osteopathic Medicine, a real form of science'. It is no such thing. It is a philosophy built on a premise with no realistic or scientific base. A small knowledge of anatomy should not permit anyone to call themself a doctor or prescribe any medicine. Any scientific evidence for these alternative medicines is either poorly researched and non existent or minimal and not related to any of the underlying pseudoscience philosophy.

  • @Frequency555com And what they usually did was die. We have medications because they work, not because we want to discriminate plants.

  • @Frequency555com Homeopathy is a joke. Anyone that's taken a basic high school chemistry course should know that diluting things don't make them stronger or water have some kind of medicine. People before pills did use plants, but guess what? People also died more and tried a lot of stuff that didn't work. Please don't mix Osteopathic Medicine, a real form of medicine, with garbage pseudoscience.
