  • Not so much if you have heating bills, old light bulbs generate a lot of heat and gives light.

I am really not better off if my bills goes up and on top pay for lighting!

  • It is true that old incandescent light bulbs do give off heat. However, the amount of heat provided by these bulbs is not enough to warrant the high cost of using them. It is actually cheaper to heat your home conventionally and use energy-saving lighting. CFL bulbs use as little as one quarter of the electricity and can last up to 10 times longer. For example a 13-watt CFL replacing a 60 watt incandescent saves about 470 kWh over its lifetime. At $0.14 per kWh you save $65.80 per light bulb!

  • @MrGreenvision cfls probably dont contain a whole lot of mercury. However, how many ppl do u think are gona actually drive around in their car with a cfl bulb to a recycling center. Especially since gas prices are so high now. All that little mercury will add up which could possibly get into our landfills. Funny how you tell ppl to think of the environment and you're promoting toxic bulbs. With incands, u dont have to worry about all that. Thats just 1 reason why many ppl prefer incands

  • No matter what you do to save energy, the energy company will just raise it's price.

The company isn't about to make less money than it has in the past.

  • STICKEDU, leave the country if u dont enjoy freedom. Face facts fool, even after the ban of edison light bulbs, 9 out of 10 people in the US will still be using incandecents. why? Cuz we love the light quality it gives off and government is not gona tell me how i can light my house. I pay for my light bill not the government. so for you its a lose situation buddy. Stick with ur poison CFLs and enjoy large amounts of mercury while u eat ur food. U just never learn

  • Typical Republicans, they need instructions on how to be careful changing a lightbulb. If you cannot handle putting in a cfl, maybe you should stick to using only the dirty old bulb. Stay in the dark ages fools. We will enjoy lower energy bills ha.

  • i would also like to add that yes, incandecents do give off more heat than light but for those of us who live up north, the weather gets very cold. So any type of heat is always welcomed. incandecents, to me give off much more pleasent light. i'l be dam if someones gona tell me how to light my house, even if it is the government. funny how they talk about saving the planet and yet, as i stated, many ppl will not recycle these CFLs which means mercury in the air. Very bad decision!

  • MRGREENVISION seems to be one of those ppl that wana be the governments bitch. Maybe the government should tell him what food he shouldnt eat cuz its unhealthy and he may get over weight. Or mayb the government should tell him when its ok to take a shit. .... The good news for those of us who like the incandecent bulbs is that they're making energy efficient incandecent light bulbs which look exactly like the edison bulb and they have been successful at this. Government can kiss my ass.

  • No you don't have to be clumbs to brake one of those bulbs, in my bathroom I used a towl and when I put it back on the rack it hit the CFL quite gently, and the bloody thing broke, now the bathroom curtains have mercury in them, and also, in 10 years time, when these bulbs no longer work, is everone going to recycle them: I think not

  • MRGREENVISION You're the idiot...You'd better realize that ANY MERCURY IS BAD...THIS GODDAMN Government is supposed to be environmentally friendly not in bed with BIG CORPORATIONS like GE...You do not have to be clumsy to break one of these damn bulbs...Look for people that have broken these little 5mg mercury bulbs they were advised to pay thousands of dollars in HAZMAT CLEANUP...A little mercury goes along way...

  • Governments worldwide imposing change to fluorescent without policing false claims by manufacturers. Fluorescent lamps never truly equal the visible light output of incandescent bulbs at the wattage equality level claimed, so consumers spend more for less light while manufacturers reap huge profits from more expensive fluorescent lamps. Brighter fluorescent lamps use more electricity, so don't really save money (cost added to electric bill) or benefit the environment all that much.

  • TobytheDug, you're an idiot! Yes CFL's contain Mercury, but are only semi dangerous if you break them, not when they are on. Besides it only contains 5mg of Mercury compare to 300mg which were use in thermometers. If you take the necessary caution by braking one, you will be OK. If you're to clumsy and brake many, have a friend screw it on for you. The joke is on you buddy, cause Incandescent bulbs will be illegal to sell within 3 years. Think of the environment
