@maharal7 I am not per say talking about Bachmann.. I have long forgotten about her words. I am having a conversation with you. She is not the only one speaking about this subject and there are other ways to find the differences in the laws wording. How long ago did that happen 2 U 19 yrs old and how many years pass. Have you had a crime committed against U since (for being gay) When Chrsitians are attacked the last culprit I think of would be homosexuals. will 1 B arrested if they call U Gay?

@maharal7 i THINK THEY DO INCREASE PUNISHMENT Go check it out further.

To reiterate: as a practical matter, these bills do NOT increase punishment, but they do allow the feds to get involved in such cases, which can be important when/if local law inforcement is indifferent. IN that sense, "Matthew shepherd" is a poor title for the act, since the Laramie police were all over that case.

Laws already exist. If you hit someone because they are a Christian, you CAN already be prosecuted for a hate crime. There are laws protecting Christians from gangs of marauding gay pagans... there just aren't any gangs of marauding gay pagans to prosecute. It may be that this law is no long er necessary- that what happened to me can't happen again. But that is NOT what Bachmann is talking about: she wants open season on fags, and is distressed that she's not getting it.
-
The point spiral, is that local law enforcement would not prosecute my attackers BECAUSE I was (am) a fag. The bill, had it existed, would have allowed me to go to the Feds... the bill, in truth, is largely symbolic. So far as I know (and my knowledge is limited) no one has spent an extra day in jail because of Federal hate crimes leg. (not state), but it allows the FBI to get involved in solving the crimes. What you don't understand is that people aren't (or weren't ) prosecuted

@marck11238 Tell me something please.. What does extra protection if your a homosexual in the form of procecution for the guilty true or not. In that a person who harms you will be charged with extra crimes, what does this have to do with Haiti?
It is already illegal to hit people. No one needs another law.

Don't assume that people who are against this are either republican or christian... we just have higher understanding of how poorly set up this bill is and to allow it to pass would do nothing but harm society in general. I am a christial (but I am not a good one, I don't even go to church), I am NOT a friggin republican. However, if you can read this bill and still be ALL FOR IT, then you need to be steralized out of the gene pool.
