1978 the Ramones opened for Patti Smith in Asbury Park. I was 15, and the show was devastating. I had never seen such power and intensity. It was a total attack, and the stark lightning effect of the lighting had much to do about it. I think Arturo had a lot to do with the theatricality of the shows, and was a huge influence on the minimalistic art of the band. It was a perfect mix of talents that produced a seemingly simple format, which in reality was postmodern nihilistic art at it's best.
