My antique 2 HP Taylor Vacuum Engine with straight-pipe exhaust blowing smoke rings. (Oil is mixed with the gas to lube this engine.) It's a "hit and miss" governed engine.

  • Yes, it's a hit and miss engine, but has a unique 2-stage piston providing an integrated vacuum pump that could run milking machines. You didn't need to buy and belt up a separate vacuum pump if you had this engine.

  • The" two click"s explained- the fuel/air mixture was off a bit that day, and wasn't quite right for it to fire (pow) on the first try, so it tried again. Some days, the engine just wants to run like that, it could be air temp, pressure, sticky gas check valve, etc. Usually, 1 click, and it fires. The click is the magneto tripping, creating spark.

  • thats a hit miss engine its not a flame sucker or vacuum

  • It is a Taylor Vacuum engine. That is the name of the company. They were used as a vacuum source for milking machines. They achieve the vacuum by using a unique shouldered piston design with a vacuum port on the side. I owned this particular engine prior to Rick. He did a great job of bringing it back to life!

  • @enginerick Wow. I love hit and miss engines but the idea of the piston causing a vacuum to help milk cows is great! I wish there was a video showhing how that works. Thanks for the info

  • THAT IS SO FUCKING AWESOME! Reminds me of the old cartoons with the machines blowing smoke rings.

  • Had a chance to buy one of these at the hope Arkansas watermelon feat last year. It ran but was still in original condition. Guy wanted 600 bux for it and I am still kicking myself for not buying it

  • Is this not just a hit or miss engine???

  • @BlueDragon4484 A hit-and-miss engine regulates its speed by not firing on every stroke and since the engine isn't driving anything in this video it misses on most strokes, this is normal for an engine regulated this way. It is different from modern engines where the speed is regulated by the amount of fuel and where not firing on every stroke would indeed be a sign of problems .

  • I think its broken....

  • TRUE hit'n'miss

  • Why does it do two "clicks" for every "pow"?
