I've never worked with ISA 828. BUt I'm not a big fun of focusrigt products and not sure that it's much better than m-audio. You can try ProjectMix and if not satisfied - go for other preamps.
@kukubara2007 Thanks for your reply. I heard reviews that its preamps are not great. I only see it as a control surface. So it means i must also buy a focusrite preamp and connect it to PM I/O. But is it possible to connect? if i can connect, i feel the focusrite ISA828 preamp in my budget with 8 in pres. both together wil cost me around 1100US$. Is it worth of spending so much? have you used Profire2626 or focusrite Saffire 40 pro?
Sorry for so much questions. Its bcos no demo here in india.
@anilnallan I've never tried to control Reason with it. I used Reason under Cubase to read akai samples. However, since I've got Halion I use Reason only if my clients bring session with it.
I'm not sure that you can get full control on Reason using Cubase as a main host. There are different setups for different hosts in ProjectMix. But with VSTi it works and controls really well. Mostly I use this functions on mixing. Makes life easier
@kukubara2007 Did you work with projectmix using cubase as host and reason or ableton etc as rewire? I work cubase as main and rewire Reason, Ableton and halion. I just want to if i can use the faders and control with rewire as well as main host app? when i shift from cubase window to reason window, will faders automatically go to reason channels? please help i'm confused to buy either profire2626 or projectmix. I like profire2626 for its preamp and projectmix for its controls. please help...
I use ProjectMix already about 4 years. I hate the sound if its preamps and convertors, but.... as a convenient and budget mobile recording it makes job done. Much better sound than Roland cheap staff. I use it with ProTools, Cubase and Logic. In the studio I use it only as a midi controller - useful. I think it was a good spending of money when I bought it.
@thepalemonarch That's not very true at all. As a control surface, it is excellent. Long throw faders, LCD screen and well designed. The preamps are not very good, but they can be bypassed. Simply use, as I do, another unit via lightpipe. The preamps are very useable as extra channels for less vital parts. Certainly no worse than units of comparable price.
OK. I have to post a comment, because lots of the stuff already posted is wrong. M-Audio Preamps are shure no hi-end equipment, but good. All reviews written about the delta 1010 are good or very good. Of course you can't compare it with focusrite, rme or motu, but I already recorded stuff for independent labels on a Delta Card. It's a really low noise and very neutral sound, and for project studios and homerecording, there's nothing better!
I used a 1010 card for a long time and this unit has the same preamps, which really sound decently. Its not top of the line preamps, but they are really very clean. obviously something in your unit was wrong, or you blew up the preamps by wrong configuration
and then when the promotional interview cuts.. it's back the SSL ;)
