an excerpt from of my favorite Louis Armstrong solos, which I was honored to try on one of his very own trumpets at the Armstrong Archives at Queens College January 12, 2012. This is one of the 3 Selmer Balanced trumpets from his collection of instruments left to the Archives, which I believe was from the mid 1950s. Louis said of his 1930 recording: "The way I look at it, that's the way a trumpet should play." Please forgive me for sharing these videos, but it was such an inspiring and overwhelmingly joyful experience to have the rare privilege to play the trumpet of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century... An experience I'll never forget.
