What's it like to be a refugee?

Kayombo Kayembe is a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He was able to immigrate to the United States in July of this year. He lives in Greensboro with his wife, two daughters, and a niece. He is the only person in the family who speaks English (this makes getting around difficult). Kayombo speaks 4 lan...guages, French, English, Swahili, and Lingala.

I met Kayombo and his family when I worked for NC African Services this summer. Over the past three months I have gotten to know the family very well. I've been their translator, navigator, and chauffeur. It's been a great experience.
