  • Very Very much why you practice with mats and spotters. Always with mats till you can do the move in your sleep

  • I don't know if you tried the pancake in this video, but the pancake I learned is not that at all !!!

The guy has to go down & catch the girl well BEFORE she has the legs toward the sky. If you catch the girl before it's less difficult for the guy.

I think you're wrong, and it makes the trick dangerous...

  • you guys are smart. my friends are lucky if we have grass around us. lol

  • Its fine if they hurt themselves with a waiver, but I'm not letting them hurt their neighbors or take up the entire dance floor with their shenanigans. If they want to practice it on their own time & exhibit at a contest or jam circle, that's fine. But if they want to perform these socially on our floor, they get to follow the rules & learn them safely with someone who knows what they're doing.

  • You say you can do them, but with respect, can you do them WELL and safely? I guarentee that most of these kids think they can do them just from watching someone else do them - and they do them improperly, to a point that they could seriously hurt themselves or others around them.

  • In all fairness, I can do about 3/4 of the aerials I've seen, and I've never done a workshop or a class. If you're prohibiting them because of liability, get a waiver. If you're doing it for their own good ... well ... you're not doing them much good.

  • Hey all, I am the girl spotting behind Brandon (guy in green T-shirt). Just wanted to thank you both for mentioning the safety factor. I am proud to say that no one has ever been seriously harmed while learning and practicing aerials with our club (WVU Swing Dance Club). I would also like to mention that after much practice we finally nailed this aerial at our performance.

  • Def. Our new students think I'm the Queen B*tch for not letting them immediately throw each other around. We're one of the few floors in the city that even ALLOW aerials socially, & we have pretty strict rules regarding practice, who can do them, & actually performing them. They whine about it, & then they won't go to workshops or practice sessons. Its frustrating trying to keep them from killing themselves.

  • no kidding! a picture's worth a thousand words, and this video says in 4 seconds more than an hour-long safety lecture ever could.

  • And THIS, my wonderful swing noobs, is why you have spotters, practice with mats, and work with others in learning aerials. These guys are doing it RIGHT!
