@c1k4ml3kc3 ya but the core of the genre is based on fantasy/medieval themes.
thats what makes it unique, and thats what its mainly known for.
songs like the bards song by blind guardian are still considered power metal because of the theme and style, even though its an acoustic drum less song.
battle would be another key thing.
a lot of maiden is battle based, and sabaton is one of my fav power metal bands and they sing about ww2

Actually, many of the premier sci-fi writers were themselves scientists.Parallel Universes, Time Travel, etc.,etc all arose out of sccience .Look how many technologies we have today, foreseen in Star Trek. Did you know the creator of Twilight Zone mysteriously just disappeared (did he know too much?)Incidentally, much of todays scientific advancements were long precluded by Bhuddism (it is'nt what you think). So truth really "IS" stranger than fiction.

@EnslaveTheEmos Power Metal only about Dragons and wizards? What? Power metal is the greatest possible musical, artistic as well as story-telling outcome that exists up to date. Theme of Power metal usually is oriented about fantasy-medieval, however not everyone can achieve it on such a great level as did this band.
Power metal is, let's say, Saber Rider metal theme. Or Final Fantasy Prelude on electric guitar. Or Helloween - Follow the sign. Or even Iron Maiden - Dance of the death.
