Live from Ithaca on September 23, 2009 at Castaways, this is Sufjan Stevens playing a brand new song, Age of Adz from his outstanding set.

I have this whole set recorded and will post a couple individual songs to youtube. If you want the whole thing, send me a PM and I'll let you know where you can find it. It should be up by this weekend.

This is the best quality available of Sufjan's new stuff as far as I've found in both video and audio quality and was shot on my Panasonic Lumix ZS3 / TZ7.

  • Haha, I like at 6:29 when Sufjan realizes he was a half beat behind.

  • I think all good dreams we've ever had that we've forgotten by the time we wake up were actually teaser trailers for these songs.

  • the whole band got a beat ahead of the track and Sufjan was fighting to pull them back. They play to a track it's apparent by the drummer's headphones, but none of this takes anything away from who I believe to be the best songwriter of his generation, Sufjan!

  • @kjsass1 it is beautiful but come on, there's nothing wrong with admitting the fact that amazing as the songs are, these early performances are a bit sketchy.

  • @Tiban Respectfully, I disagree. I think the girl was completely into the moment, and her face showed some sort of intense emotion. Sufjan Stevens is such a f*ing artist, his music can seem "disorganized," when I believe that he pushes the conventional limits of music. And it is beautiful.

  • this is the meaning of life

  • one person is not living eternally in the age of adz

  • How is it that my life decided to conspire against me for a moment? I left Ithaca 2 months before Sufjan came to Ithaca?! Woe is me, retrospectively... But ah, there is always hope for the future

  • brilliant even in the early stages

  • what I love about these performances is that everyone is a little bit lost at some point or another haha, look at the girls' face at 2:32
