@B0bMosley3 I should know, I was born in HK. Last I checked (on a business trip 2 days ago) it's alive and well and yes I remember as a kid in the 80s they made a big fuss about the name change with a full tv commercial and newspaper ads announcing the change.
Still called "Black Man Toothpaste" in Chinese though. Even though the mascot is anything but black.

@Roodosutaa ...Darkie was originally a 1933 Chinese toothpaste brand bought by Colgate/Palmolive the same year this video was made, IIRC, it's still sold in China, with the name changed to Darlie, but the racist stereotypes left intact, and is not available in the US. There are reports that visitors from China and US tourists returning who have tubes of Darkie in their bags are having them confiscated by customs officials. Go figure.
