If the Mazda2 proves anything, it's that 100-hp can in fact be fun. That's right, in case you haven't heard, the newest and smallest car in Mazda's lineup makes a piddly 100 ponies -- almost a third of what you'll get in some mid-size sedans.

Real-world mpg is more a factor of curb weight than EPA numbers. Even with the 4 sp automatic, on-line reports add about 4 mpg to the "official" numbers. Just remember, don't jab the accelerator to the floor expecting to go faster more quickly. All this does on these little cars is open up the fuel dump and drain the petrol onto the highway, or so it seems. Pretend there's an egg under the pedal, and you'll get the higher mpg.

@davidhalifax Just get the OEM/after-market console for a couple hundred. Rather have corners cut that can be replaced after the fact.
