whats with all the dislikes, i hope its not because she is white? we should support and encourage other cultures who are interested in our culture regardless of the inappropriate vid titles

I read once that the British colonists took harmoniums everywhere because they were more portable than pianos (at least the small ones like this-- some harmoniums are the same size as an upright piano), and because they didn't go out of tune in the tropics like pianos did.

hindustani classical is based on 22 shrutis; so between 1 octave there are 22 units of measure that our ears can differentiate; we have 12 chords that make up for the 22 shrutis; the harmonium actually works on the principle of 24 semi-tones; if you sing with harmonium you are actually singing besura; this is the reason why many pundits shun harmonium

actually, the french. but, ok.

No need to be defensive. It was brought from the West, probably by the British. It has undergone some changes in India, but it was not 'invented' here. Having said that, it certainly is an 'Indian' instrument. I'm glad that our music takes influences from different sources and accomodates different kinds of instruments.
