GMO Monsanto vs Percy Schmeiser

Percy Schmeiser has been growing canola for 40 years. He's been experimenting, developing his own varieties, using his own seed. Then Monsanto, the giant multinational agro-chemical company that is at the forefront of developing genetically modified foods, accused him of patent infringement and demanded restitution for its seeds. They stole his plants, seeds & research because of cross pollenation with GMO plants that other people had planted within pollenaton range. If GMO's touch your crops... Monsanto owns your crop and will sue you. Pollenation is not containable. "I never put those plants on my land," says Schmeiser. "The question is, where do Monsanto's rights end and mine begin?"

GMO's aren't the problem, Monsanto's dangerous and unethical practices are the problem. There are great things that could be done with the science but Monsanto is a private corporation that only exists to maximize profits, it doesn't have the best interests of humanity at heart. If anyone is going to do research on GMO's the research needs some sort of public control and oversight, this is the sort of thing that can NOT be trusted to corporations.

Farmers who did not willingly sign onto or buy Monsanto seed should be indemnified from 'contamination' as that is something that they have no control over. This type of indemnification needs to be fought for and instituted.

Monsanto is scum. They lobby for laws to be instated in their favor and they have destroyed so many lives. This is a part of why the Occupy movement is protesting. The government is run by companies that lobby for their own selfish interests. And no one can really say anything about them because of libel laws. Disgusting.
