The latest Coen brothers film! Coming October 2nd.

A Serious Man is the story of an ordinary mans search for clarity in a universe where Jefferson Airplane is on the radio and F-Troop is on TV. It is 1967, and Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg), a physics professor at a quiet Midwestern university, has just been informed by his wife Judith (Sari Lennick) that she is leaving him. She has fallen in love with one of his more pompous colleagues, Sy Ableman (Fred Melamed), who seems to her a more substantial person than the feckless Larry. Larrys unemployable brother Arthur (Richard Kind) is sleeping on the couch, his son Danny (Aaron Wolf) is a discipline problem and a shirker at Hebrew school, and his daughter Sarah (Jessica McManus) is filching money from his wallet in order to save up for a nose job. While his wife and Sy Ableman blithely make new domestic arrangements, and his brother becomes more and more of a burden, an anonymous hostile letter-writer is trying to sabotage Larrys chances for tenure at the university. Also, a graduate student seems to be trying to bribe him for a passing grade while at the same time threatening to sue him for defamation. Plus, the beautiful woman next door torments him by sunbathing nude. Struggling for equilibrium, Larry seeks advice from three different rabbis. Can anyone help him cope with his afflictions and become a righteous person a mensch a serious man?

  • @WhereTheyAre I also think it's very possible that the most intelligent person in the world could like Megan Fox, but hate movies like this. Genre and style of that genre plays a bigger part than anything, in my opinion.

  • @WhereTheyAre I think intelligence may play a part in taste, but only in one direction. I think being intelligent may result in a stronger likelihood of liking something like this, but I don't think liking something like Transformers is any indication of lacking intelligence. With intelligence may come the ability to like more intelligent things, but it's not going to result in a lesser fasincation in movies with Megan Fox.

    Well, i didn't find your comment very tasteful;

    You imply i'm wrong, but i don't see any arguments.

  • @dentennisser Actually there were grammatical errors in that comment, such as run-on sentences and a lack of apostrophes when I can see at least three places where they are needed. Americans are smart. We like the Coens and Ashton Kutcher, because we're not afraid to open our minds to various types of humor, rather than being pretentious snobs who gain self satisfaction out of deciding that their own tastes are the smartest, and making up fake statistics about the greatest country on Earth.

  • @WhereTheyAre And I suppose you have intelligent tastes. Give me a break.

  • This movie is based on the story of Job from the Old Testament

  • @msgpoker

    Taste has everything to do with intelligence.

    That's why the average person that has average intelligence has a bigger chance of liking hollywood shit starring Megan Fox, than the Turin Horse by Bela Tar.

    The above average intelligent person, seeks something more to be entertained or challenged.

    Also, are you implying there are no better, or more thought provoking movies targeting a certain audience, and its all a matter of... taste?
