Here is a compilation of videos I took on March 1st, 2009 as a massive winter storm descended on Georgia. The storm immediately began with sleet/snow, and only got worse from there. I wound up getting stranded in Manchester, GA after the blizzard portion of the storm pelted the city with over 8 inches of snow and with visibility at less than 200 feet. (Warm Springs five miles to the north got up to 10 inches) At one point, the storm actually produced lightning/thunder! This was the worst snowstorm/blizzard to hit this area since 1973.

  • Yea it was a nice snowfall, but it doesnt compare to the 73 snowfall in central Ga (18 to 25 inches)

  • @ulcohatchee1959 In all honesty, I hope we never see anything in comparison to the 1973 storm! I seem to recall that they had predicted only snow flurries for that day. They wound up having blizzard conditions by 10am that persisted into the afternoon hours!

  • great video

i tought i heard a little thunder at start of the ending clip but that could have been the wind

Blizzard in GA now that unheard of

    thanks for posting this video

  • What you heard at the end was indeed thunder. This storm produced lightning/thunder at a rate that I would normally only see in a supercell thunderstorm! I never thought I woud see/hear "thundersnow" in Georgia!
