Enfield Bullet 500cc Diesel motorcycle, Fitted with Hatz diesel motorcycle conversion, for the enfield bullet 500. Note the exhaust sounds very different from the petrol model. I am guessing about the engine, but I think it could be the HATZ model 1D50, actual cyl displacement 517cc, Vehicle output acc. to DIN ISO 1585. ((H.P) 10.7 @ 3600.R.P.M

  • Thats what I call a REAL Thumper! The ultimate single cylinder motorcycle with an authoritative commercial-industrial / agricultural pedigree.

  • With bikes it seems there is a VERY wide variety of desire and alot of idiots too. The wonderful aesthetic of a Bulltet with a diesel is not something many can understand. I have a 350 and when my lovely engine goes (in years from now) I will put in a Diesel and it will go on forever. Many just dont get this and its pointless trying to explain it to the many tossarses who dont/cant

  • it must be really really i mean really cheap to run :)

  • @danielborkowski Will next fit a 20t primary, bringing it down to 50 mph @ 3660 by gps. The 22t setup is still fractionally overgeared as a strong headwind can knock it back a couple of mph. Engine is only 8.5 bhp continuous after all. About 6.5 - 7 bhp @ the rear wheel. In my view, the engine should not have to resort to overload fuelling on the level to attain full engine / road speed. If the engine can hit full rated speed easily, it will be more fuel efficient regardless of the higher revs.

  • @danielborkowski Hi Dan. Originally I had a 19 GB sprocket with standard primary ratio, giving 61.5 mph @ 3600. It would see up to 57 mph on the level by gps, but comfortable cruising speed was about 45. Mpg averaged 145. I dropped the primary to a 22T, giving a 12% reduction to 54.2 mph @ 3600. (same as your 17T setup) This now gives 150 mpg at the same speeds as the former, & 162 mpg @ 40 mph by gps. No loss of top speed on the level compared to the 19, & cruising speed is higher.

  • very clever. will it hold sustained sppeds of 65+ mph highway?

  • Hi John

Thats the Sooraj Indian model that get 86km/lt which is damn good. That'd be interesting. That means you'd have to shorten the primary chain. Better than taking the whole primary setup off and changing the GB sprocket. I'm guessing you've a 19t GB sprocket on now? I've a 17t and stock primary gearing and am getting 150 sometimes less on the hwy with touring gear at 45mph. Do you think its more efficient for the engine to be geared high to be run at lower rpms or the opposite? Thanks

    Dan

  • @danielborkowski Hi Dan. 86 km/l is 244 mpg (imperial). Impressive! I'm contemplating dropping the gearing on my 406 yanclone down to 50 mph @ 3600 by dropping the primary sprocket to a 20T (19T final). This will enable the engine to cruise easily @ 50 without ever requiring overload fuelling conditions from the governor except for significant hills. Hoping to see 160 mpg plus at full speed. (cross fingers!) John.

  • @ExUSSailor The 462 Hatz / Enfield achieves between 109 mpg - 131 mpg (US) or 118 - 142 mpg per imperial gallon.

  • If I had a diesel MB I would run that thing on off the shelf veggie oil when I could not find a diesel selling station.

  • Pipe it!

  • beautiful bike. You keep it great shape. thanks for posting this.
