Fantastic series of reviews...they kind of sum up where I feel, as an owner, the N97, Nokia and Ovi are right now with far greater eloquence than I could manage. And your right, as the person in the street, the whole thing is needlessly confusing and, ultimately, less than the sum of their parts.
