This performance is perfect. It's hard to remember there was a time when music was heartfelt, not strategically aimed at a career in the style of American Idol. Her simple explanation for her lyrics and sentiments; her beautiful voice; her beautiful face reaching for the higher notes; the drama that this is her one star performance in a small career (she did some later backup vocals with Holly Near). We want to see more from her; but at least we have this single perfect performance.

@shonangreg The friend who has the original copies of the film told me. This person circulated copies of this to U.S. troops in Iraq and helped organize and distribute the Vietnam-era GI paper "Vietnam GI" that had 10,000 recipients in Viet Nam itself. Fonda said in the 80s she regretted appearing in the seat of a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun and tried to bury her radical past in the post-war period. I don't blame her or judge her. Lots of people did the same thing. Reaganism was hell.

@binhthanhvo How do you know that Jane Fonda and/or her family had the video repressed? The film was an embarrassment to Nixon and his thugs in the MPAA, etc. And the movie industry was horrified that Jane Fonda had actually shot at American planes from North Vietnam. Lots of people in high places wanted it gone. From what I've seen, Fonda is pretty cool.

This song by Rita Martinson is real "soul". Part of the genre of soul music. I am ashamed that I never heard of her until January 9, 2011. Where did that beautiful voice go? All we hear on the radio and TV nowadays is Beyonce and Rihanna singing about things that often do not matter much. The true history of the sixties and the Vietnam war has been either destroyed or rewritten by thoes who do not want the truth to infect the minds of the newer generations. Peoples: Evil rules this world!

"FTA" is shown on The Sundance Channel from time to time, so if you can't find it on home video, you might catch it on cable. Such a great film and that's a wonderful, moving song by Rita Martinson!
