The tench has a special appeal to probably the majority of today's anglers as it's a species on which many have cut their teeth. Unfairly sometimes called the 'stench' otherwise also known as 'bars of soap' this unmistakable character is a favourite of all those who come into contact with it. Its greeny bronze colouring, bright orange eyes, massive paddles and slippery coating are all recognisable characteristics of this handsome fish. Capable of growing to a size in excess of 15lb, these powerful fish have become a reliable target species, not only for the occasional fisherman, but also the match angler. In this programme we're going to try and 'come to grips' with this species by placing our confidence in the hands of specialist angler David Maddocks. He'll be joined by his brother angling legend Kevin of carp and cat fame and to finish we'll catch up with four times World Coarse Angling Champion Bob Nudd MBE on a cracking little water... with a waggler.
