PROMO: The Port Wentworth Project, Part I
Join the Port Wentworth Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center as we present the first chapter of the documentary series, "The Port Wentworth Project," created to honor the area's rich history and the people who shaped our town.

Part I, features two Port Wentworth GA residents. Ms. Rosetta Franklin who grew up in Yamacraw Village, one of the first "Projects" in Savannah, Georgia and Mr. Horace Pevey, who grew up in the "Big Village" in what is now downtown Port Wentworth.

Both speak about growing up in this Coastal Georgia area during the Great Depression, World War II and their experiences as children. They also describe the need for a Museum to preserve the areas rich history for future generations.

About Port Wentworth:
We are "Savannah's Front Porch." What is now Port Wentworth was originally part of several Colonial Plantations including Mulberry Grove where Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin in 1793. Today Port Wentworth's Exit 109 area is a well-placed "home base" of hotels, motels and restaurants and a convenient lodging spot for tourists. Only 11 miles from Savannah's Historic District, Exit 109 is the closest I-95 exit to Georgia's First City with direct trolley service from all Port Wentworth hotels. Whether you're a history buff looking to explore our Savannah River Plantations, a Civil War explorer seeking to walk the living history of Sherman's March to the Sea or a family searching for an affordable road-trip, you'll find adventure in Port Wentworth! We have many free attractions including the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, direct access to the Savannah River at the Houlihan Boat Landing, Historic African American Praise Houses and Cemeteries, themed driving tours and family owned farms that sell fresh Georgia Grown produce.

Economical options, convenience and homespun hospitality: that's Port Wentworth, "Savannah's Front Porch." The I-95, Exit 109 area of Port Wentworth is the best place to "pitch your tent" as you prepare to enjoy your historical tour of Georgia.
