Falun Gong Crackdown Continues Before Olympics

Large numbers of Falun Gong practitioners are being arrested ahead of the Olympic Games. It's happening all over the country... in Beijing, Shanghai, and Liaoning Province to name a few. Here's more from our China news team.

STORY:
The Falun Gong website Minghui.net says more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested by the Chinese Communist Party over the last three months.

"Using the Olympic Games as an excuse, the CCP has conducted a massive search of Falun Gong practitioners. Our Falun Gong human rights organization is about to send an urgent letter of complaint to the United Nations Human Rights Council and to the Independent Commissioners for Human Rights."

Chen hopes the public will step up to stop the persecution.

"So we hope that our urgent appeal can draw attention from governments around the world to be concerned about this issue, as the CCP is persecuting the Chinese people, especially Falun Gong practitioners in mainland China. We hope they will step forward to stop the CCP from violating human rights."

One of the people speaking up is the editor-in-chief of Hong Kong's Open Magazine.

"Falun Gong has gained more and more sympathy and understanding from the outside world. The world has seen the image of Falun Gong as 'Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance,' and that the persecution is completely groundless."

Jin believes that more and more people who are also persecuted by the CCP will also take a stand.
