N.Y. Gay Marriage: Why No Vote?

AP writer Michael Gormley explains why it is taking so long to get a vote on gay marriage in New York state. A top tanking Republican said Friday that legislators don't want to let a vote drag into the weekend. (June 24)

@sammyhain13 Yes, that doesn't say they're equal. As I said, there are NO good studies out there; they don't have the data to assert that they're equal. Plus, they're out of their minds with politically correct mania. As I said, the Canadian stats show double the rate of domestic violence in lesbian "marriages." For gays, it's quadruple. You say my "assumptions are unfounded." But they're based on statistics and my college education, not to mention common sense. The APA lacks that.

@namordecai Go to the American Psychological Association webpage. There is a long series of studies of both lesbians and gays, using different methodologies. Each shows there's no discernible difference between children of straight or gay parents. Everything else is merely unsupported stereotypes on your part. Have you thought that the reason there's such a high divorce rate is that we no longer make marriage about love, but rather an empty baby factory?

@sammyhain13 TYPICAL families include step-fathers whose abuse rates are off the charts, disgustingly high. If that's the best lesbian couples can do, I'm not impressed. Women are supposed to be naturally domesticated, but statistics on lesbian "marriages" in Canada suggest twice the rate of domesticate violence. That's not very promising with regard to your case that lesbians are just as good as typical families. As a side note, that study on lesbians was self-reported. Flawed methodology.

@sammyhain13 Just like the Netherlands, people's belief that marriage is important before having children has waned. "Gay marriage," implies that marriage has nothing whatsoever to do with children. Should the government PROMOTE something that contradicts the U.N. Children's Bill of Rights? Obviously not, even if you believe the flawed studies done on lesbians (no male homosexuals). As a side note, that study was done with self-reporting and only compared lesbian couples to TYPICAL families.

@sammyhain13 Even if there were studies that didn't have serious methodological flaws (and there are none, seeing as it's too politically incorrect to release accurate statistics and analysis on homosexuals) showing that to be the truth, the government still shouldn't be promoting incorrect principles. Illegitimacy is a serious problem in American, and it's cause it well known: people don't believe marriage is important with regard to children.

@namordecai None of that contradicts the fact that children raised in gay families are just as well rounded and healthy as any other. Study after study proves it. Which is why even Catholic adoption services are now banned from discriminating against homosexuals. Being as stubborn as ever many are closing their doors rather than comply, as such they are hurting the children rather than admitting they're wrong
