Attorney Deborah Stevenson - New Haven, CT County Coordinator for Continental Congress 2009 spoke at the Hartford, CT Tea Party on July 4th 2009 and told the crowd about Continental Congress 2009.

Our government has become economically, ethically and legally out-of-control! We The People must restore our national Republic through the 1st Amendment process our Founders provided.

Continental Congress 2009 will convene as a national assembly of We The People and attest to the increasing abuses of our Governing Documents. Together, we will decide what peaceful and legal steps can be taken to bring about compliance with our freedom documents. This is NOT an effort to change the Constitution in any way! This is an effort to make our government and our elected representatives adhere to the Rule of Law and the Constitution.

We The People will no longer tolerate being ignored by our government and politicians. Our government continues to expand into the one Washington, Franklin, Jefferson, Madison and Adams repeatedly warned against. After taking the very OATH to heed our Constitution, politicians from every party heed the power-addicted schemes of Washington, and instead violate our rights! Our grievances have gone unanswered,and unconstitutional legislation continues to pour out of Washington DC.

This is the next appropriate step of a Free People! On November 9-24, 2009, delegates representing The People of the fifty states will join together in the tradition of the Founding Fathers and their Continental Congress of 1774.

It's about time. But if you're just talking about change in personnel or creating new agencies, it won't help, because the problem is in the apparatus of federal gov't. It must be divested of every authority that can reasonably be assumed by individual states. We must prune it down to a lean, streamlined federal gov't, handling only national defense, immigration, foreign affairs, etc. & matters that no single state can assume on its own. Then we'll see some abatement of this wild spending spree.
