Hayastan: A Promise to Araxi (Armenian Genocide documentary)

On April 24, 1915, Ottoman Turks rounded up and killed three hundred Ottoman Armenian leaders and intellectuals living in Constantinople. Thus began a slaughter which would leave 1.5 million of 2.1 million Ottoman Armenians dead.

Years later, Adolph Hitler, who was a private with the Ottoman-allied German army at the time of the genocide, would tell his troops: "Go, kill without mercy. . . . After all, who today remembers the extermination of the Armenians?"

Today, Turkey not only denies the genocide but has orchestrated a campaign to rewrite its history. Ultimately, the healing can only begin at the point where acknowledgement comes. This is as true for Turks as it is for Armenians as it is for all of us. It is all of our history. And as Hitler would show to devastating effect, those who do not learn from their history are doomed to relive it.
