Do recent reforms in Myanmar indicate a real willingness to change or are they merely window-dressing? Inside Story discusses with guests: Maung Zarni, a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics; Richard Weitz, a Senior Fellow and the director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at Hudson Institute; and Maitrii Aung-Thwin, an assistant professor of Southeast Asian History at the National University of Singapore.

  • May all people in Myanmar have "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

  • There will be no peace and development in Myanmar as long as the regime does make a tripartite dialogues among generals, Aung San Suu Kyi who leads Majority Bamas and representatives from ethnic minorities. China, US and Myanmar generals are all hypocrites and see their benefits only. Dr. Zarni here has got the right points I think. I didn't get Maiitri well what he was uttering. He might not even know what he was talking. Anyway, may peace and mercy be on each and everyone living in Myanmar.

  • Come on people are you really that naive to think that America has the "interests of the people" in mind when sending diplomatic envoys to a country like Burma? And that the general's "reforms" are anything other than cosmetic and designed to give the outside the illusion that they are changing their ways so that they can continue to hold power?? What Dr Zarni says is spot on, Hillary is there to promote US interests to counter growing Chinese influence in the region.

  • why do i sometimes feel like she is the prez instead of obama

  • MaiTrii you are fucking siding with Junta

  • go to 17:41

  • This is the very first time I see Dr. Zarni, a very strong Burmese activist.

If he is Zarni Myo Htet, who went to No. 1 SHIS, Myanmar, Mandalay, his father used to work for Myanmar Socialist Mandalay North-West Party Unit and his mother used to work as a teacher in No. 4 SHS, Mandalay. He hated 8888 because he father died after he lost the position and his mother died after his father.

HE HATES 8888. WHY HAS HE BEEN DOING THIs? WHOM DOES HE WANT TO REVANGE?

  • All bamar are Chinese cock suckers. Now they are turning towards America as they realized there is more than one cock to suck in this world !

  • Well! Dr. Zarni has pointed out real problems in Burma. But we need solutions to them. Dr. Zarni seems to change his stands every now and them. It may be because Burmese generals are changing their stands and playing with people. I agree to Dr. Zarni to certain extent that there is no such a thing called change in Myanmar yet because the situation still hasn't changed and in critical and vulnerable condition . But we need to be positive and to work in unity.
