OK - here is my answer to the 2nd iJapan (Intermediate Japanese) lesson.

The first part that you had to translate from Japanese into English:

Yesterday was my birthday. My older brother gave me a CD. I was very surprised. The reason is every year my Mom and Dad have given me a birthday present, but my older brother has never given me anything.

The 2nd part you had to translate from English into Japanese:

"Doushite, kotoshi wa purezento wo kuretano" to, ani ni kiite mimashita.

Ani wa "Omae no CD wo wacchattan dayo. Gomen na" to kotaemashita.

Amari ureshiku nai purezento deshita.

『どうして、今年はプレゼントをくれたの』と、兄にきいてみました。

兄は『おまえのCDをわっちゃったんだよ。 ごめんな』とこたえました。

あまりうれしくないプレゼントでした。

OK - thanks for watching! How did you do?

Come back for lesson #3 soon!

Jason

  • I'd get together with other JETs and try to have a dinner with Thanksgiving items, but turkey is hard to find in the inaka, and many apartments don't have ovens, so it's hard to bake or cook large things. But JETs are from everywhere, and only Canadians and Americans really celebrate Thanksgiving, so it was never a big deal except for my first year. You're at work that day anyway, so you soon forget that it's a special day.

  • Did you ever do anything for Thanksgiving while you were in Japan?

  • I was bound to have it wrong with having no idea how to use the quotations in japanese. Thanks for the answers :)

  • Aha I knew I'd make mistakes, well thanks for the answer~
