While I get that recognition from a Respected institution in your field, like MTV in music, is important, keep in mind sales & style aren't the only qualifiers in music. Beyond that, the "uber competitive genre" of Hip Hop post-1994 has been essentially BASED on status & self promotion;"I'm the dopest, I'm the best, my shit is flyer than yours, blah blah".But if you're truly great, you don't NEED anybody else to tell you so.

Man your problem is you cant embrace any new rappers, Dr. Dre and the Game both said Kendrick Lamar is a special rapper, just like Nas, just like Eminem, just like andre 3000 (who is good but not my style). Kendrick is on the same level as them and if he came out the same time as all of those rappers he would be considered better than most of them, but he is on his own in this era and he is not getting enough credit because of who is being brought up with him, he wayyyyy better than asap
